How to Get Your Utah Real Estate License

Utah offers Sales Agent and Broker licenses through the Division of Real Estate.

Sales Agent License Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Complete 120 classroom hours of Division-approved salesperson pre-licensing education within the year prior to licensing
• Present the Candidate Education Certifying Document each time you take the exam
• Pass the licensure examination (130 scored questions)
• Complete fingerprinting — digital at select test centers ($35 fee, separate from the Division fingerprint fee) or physical FD-258 cards via local law enforcement elsewhere
• Apply within 90 days of passing both exam components and within 12 months of completing pre-licensing education

Broker License Requirements

• Complete 120 classroom hours of broker pre-licensing education
• Pass the Broker exam (170 scored questions: 80 national + 90 state)
• Submit required documentation to the Division of Real Estate

Education Waivers

Applicants with education from another state or jurisdiction, or active members of the Utah State Bar Association, may qualify for a partial or full education waiver — submit documentation to the Division and allow at least 30 days for review.

Step 1: Complete your fingerprinting

Digital fingerprinting is available for a $35 fee at select test centers (Bountiful, Draper, Ogden, Orem); elsewhere, complete physical FD-258 cards through local law enforcement.

Step 2: Track both deadlines

Apply within 90 days of passing both exam components AND within 12 months of completing your pre-licensing education.

Step 3: Submit your license application

Include the required forms, fees ($154), and your fingerprint documentation to the Utah Division of Real Estate.

Step 4: Affiliate with a principal broker

Your license needs a supervising principal broker to activate.

Step 5: Wait for license issuance

Typical processing runs 8-12 weeks given the fingerprint and documentation requirements.
