How to Get Your New Jersey Real Estate License

New Jersey offers Salesperson and Broker licenses through the Real Estate Commission.

Salesperson License Requirements

• Complete 75 hours of prelicensure education — your school electronically submits your eligibility to PSI upon completion
• Pass the Salesperson exam (110 scored questions, 70% to pass) within your 1-year eligibility window
• Complete a fingerprint process (Sagem-Morpho Universal Form)
• Meet with your employing broker, who must sign and date your passing score report
• Submit all license materials simultaneously: signed score report, fingerprint receipt, and $160 fee (payable to the State Treasurer of New Jersey), within one year of your eligibility expiration date — partial submissions are not accepted

Broker License Requirements

• Work full-time as a salesperson for 3 years
• Complete 150 hours of broker prelicensure education: a 90-hour general course first, then two 30-hour courses
• Submit an experience approval application with a $25 fee to the Commission before you're eligible to schedule the exam — do not contact PSI before receiving your Certificate of Examination Eligibility
• Pass the Broker exam (115 scored questions)
• Complete the fingerprint process and submit $270 ($200 license + $50 application + $20 Guaranty Fund) upon passing

Disabled Veteran Fee Waivers

New Jersey-citizen disabled veterans, honorably discharged, may qualify for a reduced license fee: $60 for salesperson (instead of $160) or $70 for broker (instead of $270), with certification of disability and discharge documentation.

Step 2: Meet with your employing broker

Your passing score report must be signed and dated by your employing broker before submission.

Step 3: Submit all materials simultaneously

Gather your signed score report, fingerprint receipt, and $160 fee (certified check, money order, or broker's business account check — no personal checks) and submit them together, within one year of your eligibility expiration date.

Step 4: Wait for license issuance

Processing begins once your complete, simultaneous submission is received.
